It is the last week! I have been continuing to work on my slideshow and presentation. I have practiced the slides that I have completed so far and have timed myself to make sure I speak about each slide for a decent amount of time. I plan on presenting on Tuesday! I am nervous, but excited.

I am almost done! I have spent time working on my presentation and collecting all materials I will need to use for my presentation. I have tried to spend time each day working on a few slides a day and using the speakers notes to help me talk about the content I learned about the past 12 weeks during this project.
Week 10! This week I finished my painting and did all the finishing touches. I am still deciding whether or not to add flowers all around the canvas, instead of simply leaving them only at the bottom of the canvas. As I was painting, outlining the features on the face was difficult. I had sketched out the entire face before painting and when I began to paint I realized I had to go over it. I pretty much had to sketch it over again after painting.
Last week, I came up with colors I wanted to use for the eyes, hair, and skin tone. I ended up changing the skin tone to a little darker and kept the eyes and hair the same color as before. After finishing painting the face, I went back over with a lighter brown to highlight the shoulders, nose, and lips. The eyelashes and eyebrows were time consuming only because I had to paint over each strand I had sketched out before, but was not too hard. Lastly, I had to paint the curls on. I used both black and brown, and even a little bit of white to get the curling motion properly and because I did not want to paint the hair all one color. For Week 9, I began to finish the upper half portion of the face. It included the eyes, eyebrows, eyelashes, and the hair. I had a difficult time sketching out the hair because I wanted to do curls and I had to put time into each and every strand to make it realistic. The eyes were easy to do after I had found a size that fit the structure of the face and simple added the eyelashes afterwards.
After sketching the complete face, I started to brainstorm the colors I wanted to use and how I was going to use them. It was hard to find a perfect shade as the skin tone. I had to mix several colors together to get a amber/ caramel tone. The hair color I chose was a dark brown, leaning more towards black. I wanted to choose darker colors to accentuate the eye color, which I chose to be green. This week I focused on the flowers and wanted to put time and detail into each and everyone of them. I drew all sorts of flowers because I did not want to have the same type. I used sunflowers, roses, lavender, and others that I painted along the way. When painting the petals, I wanted to accentuate the colors in them, so I used different shades of the same color to make them more vibrant. When painting the ones I had drawn before, I realized there was still a lot of open space towards the bottom of the canvas. The stems of the flowers were too high and to fix that I painted flowers at the bottom of the canvas to look as if it is a bundle of flowers. I did not have much difficulty painting them, except when the petal would lose shape because I would use too much paint at once. I took a picture of the painted flowers compared to the ones from Week 7. Earlier on this week, I made a small clay dish to hold jewelry or whatever is you'd like. I wanted to include it in the blog because it is apart of art and I want to keep my progress on other small tasks. It did not take me long to make, although I did have to wait a day for the clay to dry in order to begin painting.
I am starting my project!! After last week, I decided on one certain sketch to do for my final project. I first had to go out and buy a canvas that would be large enough to do my drawing/painting to begin. As I previously mentioned, I want my finished project to incorporate all the techniques and skills I learned throughout the past few weeks. I wanted the focal point of my artwork to be a face because that is mostly what I spent time learning about. I learned about body structure and how to define facial features. I wanted to also include scenery in the artwork, but in a different way. I did not want to have someone have a typical scenery in the background, but have the scenery be a feature with the face.
In the picture below I begun the structure of the face, but I did not complete it because I want to be sure I do not make a mistake. I did start on the flowers at the bottom of the canvas and will continue to draw them. My goal with the flowers is to put detail and time into each one. I am halfway done! For week 6, I wanted to begin to plan through the next few weeks and have an idea of what my final project will be. The past few weeks I have been learning different art techniques and how to draw better. At the start of My Genius Hour Project, my idea for my finished project was to incorporate every technique I have learned and make it into one piece of art. I have done a few sketches for my final project and I am deciding which one will be the most efficient to work with!
For week 5, I wanted to learn how to draw a specific facial feature, mainly focus on noses. The first week, I learned an a general overlook of facial structure, but noses can be fixated many different ways and can change the image of someone completely. I watched a Youtube video and had pictures of reference off of Pinterest. The video concluded of how to draw a nose from the front, the side, and from different angles. I want to be close to finishing and taking everything I have learned the past few weeks to start preparing for my final project. I have to prioritize my weekly blogs and plan how I am going to execute the next few weeks.
The picture below displays the different sketches of noses I drew. It was difficult sketching the point of the nose and the width because if it is not proportional, it looks odd. Week four I wanted to learn more about body structure and how to properly go about drawing them. I went onto Youtube and found a video detailing how to draw bodies for beginners, it mainly focused on how to draw a women’s body, but I wanted to know both. I had to watch two separate videos, one for a women and the other for men. The typical female body is drawn with more curves and has a smaller figure. Men are drawn with a more taller, muscular figure. As I have more practice, I will be able to play around with different structures and even be able to do different poses.
This week, I did not have much time to dedicate to my project, but I did try painting on a canvas and in my sketch/art book. I wanted to know which one would be best to paint on for future reference. After trying both options, I found that painting in the sketch book was a lot easier and required less paint, but had a small amount of space to work with. On the canvas, it only required a little more paint, had much more space, and absorbed the paint much faster compared to the sketch/art book. Overall, I would say that the canvas is the preferable choice, especially if you want to paint a scenery or landscape. It is also easier to cover up minuscule mistakes along the way!
