For the second week, I wanted to start to experiment with color and never had much experience with oil pastels. I did not how to properly blend color or use techniques to make art look well using the oil pastels, so I watched two videos. I first watched a tutorial on how to blend between multiple colors and the second video was on 6 simple techniques I could use. Two tricks I learned were to use a white oil pastel to blend two colors and the second was to use a light color first and use a darker color to cover over it. After doing so, you could scratch with a pencil or sharp object to scratch off the dark color, so the light color behind is seen through. You can create a scenery using this technique, this allows you to put detail in a drawing.
Below are two small drawings I did using the tricks I learned from both videos. The first drawing was to practice my blending and the second was to attempt the technique I learned from the second video. The oil pastels I used are not the best, but I wanted to try them out to see if it was something I would enjoy using. It would have turned out better, if the pastels were more opaque.

For the first week, I wanted to learn a few basics on drawing. I watched a Youtube video that focused on learning how to draw faces, eyes, nose, and mouths. In order for me to begin, I had to get my materials. I got my pencils and sketch book. The Youtube video consisted of different sections, each focusing on a separate basis. It was divided in head shape, eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, ears, hairline, and drawing tips towards the end.
The picture below is the sketch I made after following along with the video. I had difficulties adjusting the face structure and matching the eyes and eyebrows, but after completing the whole face I went back and tweaked them. There were many ways you can structure a face, you could widen the eyes, change the hairline, make the nose more wide or narrow. I decided to follow the basic circular shape since I am just starting out. |
